Just before I joined TWD back on March 11, 2008 – Russian Grandmothers’ Apple Pie-Cake was the pick, recipe found on pages 310-311 of BFMHTY by Dorie Greenspan.
This is a rather soft dough filled with fairly classic apple, sultana and cinnamon sugar mix. Now as it turns out my apples were not terribly juicy and this pie cake while nice was reasonably dry.
Perfect to cover with Matt’s fav- gratuitous custard or lots of vanilla ice cream (which really is just frozen vanilla custard).
I think I may stick with more traditional apple pie recipes but it was good to have a go at this version.
